What I'm doing now

Updated October 21st, 2024, from our new home in the northern German countryside. It's been a beautiful autumn so far.

Moving Into Our New Home

My partner and me are in the process of moving into our new home.

It's an old house that hasn't seen a lot of love in a long time. It will be a lot (like, truly, a lot) of work. But having the freedom to design our own home, while repairing an old one, is something we wanted to do for a long time. Our time horizon for phase one of this process is ten years.

Building a GameBoy Emulator

In the very sparse time I find for programming in my freetime these days, I've been hacking away at a toy GameBoy emulator in C.

This is a project that I wanted to tackle for years now. The thing that pushed me to finally start is Pikuma's amazing Graphics course. My dream is to run my own 3D software renderer on my own GameBoy emulator. 1FPS will be enough.

Recovering my Fitness

Last time I updated this page I was preparing for the Rad am Ring bike race. Since then I had Covid, which tanked my VO2 max. And just as I felt I recovered, I blew out my back while squatting, which took multiple weeks–pretty much until now–to heal.

Now, my plan is the same it has always been: to get fit. My goal is a VO2 max of 66 as reported by my Apple Watch (because a friend of mine has 65, of course). I'm at ... 38 right now. Should be easy!
